Arizona's Economy

  • Arizona needs to make our state's business climate more attractive for investment if we want to add jobs that are long term and stable, high paying and high skill.
  • Arizona must have a legal climate that limits frivolous lawsuits
  • Arizona must have low taxes, both personal and corporate to compete with Nevada, Texas and other states
  • Arizona must have a regulatory climate that promotes business and entrepreneurialism, not one that discourages new innovation by putting up needless obstacles.

    Education

    • K-12 Education makes up 34% of the current state budget - We must demand Transparency, priority-based budgeting, outcomes focus, and accountability
    • Learn and implement what is working - Charter Schools and Private Schools on average outperform public schools on almost every AIMS category
    • Challenge with choices - Vouchers and Charter Schools provide parents and students with options, especially in underperforming schools and/or districts
    • Choices include everyone - Our education reform programs are designed to provide real choices to low and middle income parents, especially those in poorly performing districts
    • Our plan only provides vouchers to those at 185% of poverty level that are not already attending a private school
    • Voucher funding can be accomplished with tax credits and should be expanded to include individuals as well as corporations

Arizona education faces many obstacles.  Obviously, the goal of educational reform is to foster innovation and improve the quality of education.  That reform must be cost conscious and meet priority-based budget requirements.  Increased spending does not necessarily yield higher test scores.

    The Issues Facing Our Businesses

My plan has six "big picture" platforms:

    • Business Friendly Policy

    • Protecting Right-to-Work
    • Tax reform / Tax relief
    • Find the Money
    • State, National and Global
    • Block Destructive Government Mandates.

I recognize that small businesses are the engine to employment and are a well-defined catalyst for building wealth.  Small businesses are at the core of improving the standard of living for Arizonans.  The future success of our state depends on the future success of Arizona's small businesses.

Illegal Immigration - We Must Secure the Borders

    • Border Security is the fundamental platform for success.  Without controlled border security, Arizona will continue to waste precious capital resource
    • $1.3 billion cost of illegal immigrants must be used to support and provide opportunities to the legal residents of Arizona
    • Deploying National Guard troops is effective, but the state and feds must fund the deployment
    • Arizona laws should require citizenship or legal status to receive benefits
    • Trespassing laws against illegal immigrants may not be effective but denying state benefits and enforcing employer sanctions laws are effective

First and foremost we must secure our borders.   Currently the 389 miles of Arizona / Mexico border have been used by illegal immigrants as a gateway into our state.  Illegal immigration is a relentless drain on the entire state’s infrastructure.

Estimates have the total cost of illegal immigrants on healthcare, education, and jails at $1.3B.  Clearly this is a Federal issue, but the State of Arizona must in many cases act because the Federal government is not doing enough.   Without a unified effort and fulfilled promises from the Federal government Arizona will feel the ever-growing impact of illegal immigration.

    Protecting the 2nd Amendment

The Constitution of the United States is put in place for our guidance and protection. The document, more specifically the Bill of Rights, gives us personal freedoms unlike any other in the world.

    Protecting the 10th Amendment

The Tenth Amendment is put in place to identify the capacity of influence the federal government has upon the people of the United States. It specifies powers given to the federal government by the people, and leaves any other obligations to the state governments or to local governments, depending on the issue.
